Witnesses Sought To Suspected Sexual Assaults In Belfast City Centre

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to suspected sexual assaults in the city centre on 29 November.

According to reports a 29-year-old on suspicion of sexually assaulting three to four women in the Church Lane and Royal Avenue areas of the city centre on Saturday evening.

The man is described as being 5’ 5” in height, wearing a hooded top and ripped jeans. He also had his left hand bandaged.

Anyone who may have seen the man or any of the incidents is asked to contact police.

Belfast City Council Named Local Authority Of The Year

A national charity has named Belfast City Council 'Local Authority of the Year'.

Fields in Trust awarded the Council, in partnership with the local community, to help preserve Cregagh Green, the open space where George Best first played football.

Earlier this year, the Green was the first project in the UK to be awarded funding by the London Marathon Charitable Trust, as part of The Active Spaces Forever programme, delivered in partnership with Fields in Trust.

Alderman Tommy Sandford, Chairman of the Council's People and Communities Committee, who is from Cregagh, said: "This is a great honour for Belfast City Council. Cregagh Green is very close to my heart, coming from and representing this area, and I would like to thank Fields in Trust for recognising the work of the Council and local community together in bringing this space to life with a range of activities organised through the Active Spaces Forever programme."

Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A man has been convicted for claiming benefits he was not entitled to at Magherafelt Magistrates' Court.

Robert Caskey claimed Jobseeker's Allowance totalling £3,087 while failing to declare employment. He was given 200 hours community service.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.

The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.

The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.
