Residents Evacuated During Security Alert In L'Derry

Residents in L'Derry were evacuated from their homes overnight following a security alert.

Emergency services were called to the scene in the Ederowen Park area on Wednesday, 13 December.

The alert is expected to continue into Thursday morning.

SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney said the situation is causing upset and disruption to families.

He said: "Those evacuated have been moved to a local community centre.

"The PSNI have assured me the are working to ensure the area is safe but they expect that the alert will last until the morning. There is no further update at this time. The priority remains to ensure all residents in the area are safe.

"I'll remain at the scene, working with the PSNI and those in the community centre. As soon as I have a further update I will inform the wider community."

Police Issue Fresh Appeal For Witnesses To Banbridge Shooting
A man shot in the abdomen in a Banbridge car park on Friday, 12 April, remains in a critical condition in hospital. The man, aged in his 40s, was shot as he sat in a car by a masked man. Detectives investigating a shooting in the Rathfriland Road area returned to the scene on the evening of Friday, 19 April.

Pipe Bomb Type Device Found In West Belfast
A pipe bomb type device has been discovered in west Belfast. The "crude but viable" device was found during a security alert in the Rodney Drive area on Tuesday morning. Police and army bomb disposal experts attended the scene and residents had to be evacuated from their homes. The device was made safe and the alert has now ended.
