Draperstown Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A 46-year-old Draperstown woman has been given a four month suspended prison sentence following a conviction of benefit fraud.

Bernadette McGreevey of Glenelly Villas, Draperstown, claimed Income Support totalling £17,440 while failing to declare capital. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

Mrs McGreevey is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.

Suspected benefit fraud can be reported to the Department for Communities anonymously. 

Work To Start On £2.4m Water Mains Upgrade In Cookstown

Contractor Farrans Utilities is to begin work on a £2.4 million water mains improvement scheme in Cookstown.

Approximately 30km of new watermains will be installed in the Orritor Road area of the town and the eight-week scheme will get underway on Monday, 08 January.

Work will be carried out in two sections and take place between 9.30pm to 6am. Section one will be laid from the junction of Morgans Hill Road to the entrance of Marks & Spencer and section two will take place from the junction at Marks & Spencer to Oldtown Street.

NI Water thanked the public for their patience and said it will do everything possible to keep any disruption to a minimum.

Cross-Border Rail Delays Expected Following Landslide

Delays are expected today on the cross-border rail service following a track closure on Thursday.

The line was closed in both directions for a number of hours on Thursday between Newry and Dundalk due to "subsidence" on the track north of Dundalk, according to Translink.

The line was cleared and the service reopened, but Translink have warned of "knock-on delays" to the service today.
