Suspected Burglar Arrested Following Reports Of Suspicious Activity

A suspected burglar has been arrested after a member of the public reported suspicious activity in Newtownabbey.

PSNI officers attended the scene in the Lynda Meadows area at around 4.20am on Thursday, 11 January.

Police said they found an abandoned car containing suspected stolen items inside.

Detective Commander Superintendent Emma Bond said: "This incident highlights the importance of having and setting a house alarm and the value of good neighbours looking out for each other. I would strongly encourage everyone in the Antrim and Newtownabbey District to take this opportunity to review your own security measures and to report any suspicious activity on your street, with as much detail as possible, straightaway."

Cigarettes seized in County Tyrone
Police in County Tyrone have recovered a large quantity of contraband cigarettes. Around 365,000 cigarettes were discovered during a police search of premises at School Terrace in Sion Mills, following reports of suspicious activity in the area. No one was arrested during the raid and police have said that inquiries into the find are continuing.
