Yellow Warning For Strong Winds Issued In NI

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds throughout Northern Ireland.

The warning comes into place at 1am on Wednesday, 24 January, until 2pm.

Gusts of up to 50 to 60mph are expected.

The high winds may affect public transport services and delays are expected.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Over Northern Ireland peak winds are expected during the early hours of Wednesday. Over western Scotland, including the Western Isles, the highest winds are expected to be late in the night and early on Wednesday morning and thus coincide with the morning rush hour. By late morning and early afternoon the highest winds will be confined to the far north of mainland Scotland, Orkney and Shetland."

Motorists and the public are being urged to take extra care.

Heavy Winds Expected Across NI
Heavy winds and gales are expected across Northern Ireland as the remains of Hurricane Gonzalo cross the Atlantic. A yellow weather warning has been issued by the UK Met Office from midnight to 3pm. On Monday night gusts exceeding 50mph are expected inland, with 60 to 70mph gusts in exposed coastal areas, according to the Met Office.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland due to an "unseasonably windy spell" hitting parts of the UK. Strong winds of up to 60mph are expected to move across the country later today, 1 June. Heavy rain is also expected, while large waves have been predicted along the south and east coasts.

Several parts of Northern Ireland have been hit with snow today, 28 April. Traffic was also moving slowly throughout some areas in NI as motorists took care on the roads. According to the Met Office, outbreaks of rain are expected throughout the day with hill snow and it is to become windier.

Residents Evacuated During Security Alert In L'Derry
Residents in L'Derry were evacuated from their homes overnight following a security alert. Emergency services were called to the scene in the Ederowen Park area on Wednesday, 13 December. The alert is expected to continue into Thursday morning. SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney said the situation is causing upset and disruption to families.
