Warning For Snow And Ice Issued In NI

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued across Northern Ireland.

The warning has been issued from 10pm on Thursday, 08 February, until noon on Friday, 09 February.

Heavy snow showers are expected following rain and sleet showers.

Public transport may be affected and motorists are being urged to take care.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Rain, sleet and hill snow is expected to clear north western Scotland late on Thursday evening, and these clearer conditions will spread to all parts by early Friday morning.

"Ice is expected to form as skies clear. Heavy snow showers will follow, and these will be most frequent across Northern Ireland and western Scotland, where 2-5 cm may accumulate above 100 m with some snow to low levels too. Ice will be the main hazard across Northern England and Wales."

Warning Issued After Thousands Lost To Gift Card Scam
The PSNI have issued a warning after a L'Derry resident lost thousands of pounds in a gift card scam. According to police, the person was contacted online and told that they had won money. They were told they needed to send online gift cards to verify themselves. This continued for some time before the scam was spotted and stopped.

Appeal Following Spate Of Burglaries Across Coleraine
PSNI detectives have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a recent spate of burglaries in Coleraine. On the morning of Sunday, 25 February, police received a report of a break-in at a house in the Magheraboy Road area of Portrush. It is believed that the burglary occurred sometime overnight on Saturday evening, 24th February.

Yellow Warning For Ice And Snow
A yellow warning for snow and ice is in place across Northern Ireland following what is said to have been the coldest night of the year. The Met Office reported that ice has formed on surfaces, with higher ground expected to see continued snowfall. A mixture of rain and sleet is expected across lower areas throughout the day.

Second Weather Warning For Ice Issued Across NI
A second yellow weather warning for ice has been issued across Northern Ireland. The warning has been put in place from 6pm on Wednesday, 31 January, until 10am on Thursday, 01 February. Following a spell of rain, sleet and snow, temperatures are expected to fall quickly allowing ice to form on untreated surfaces.
