Cycle Friendly Employer Scheme Launced

The European Cycle Friendly Employer Scheme, delivered by Cycling UK and supported by Sustrans, has been launched in Northern Ireland.

The scheme recognises businesses already helping their employees to commute by bike, but also provides practical support and advice to help staff with their travel choices.

To get certified your business will have to meet some basic measures like cycle parking, providing information to employees and additional measures which you can choose.

How the scheme can support your business:

• Provides recognition of your business’s success and PR opportunities.

• Helps integrate cycling into your business in a positive and simple way.

• Helps business attract and retain the best talent by making their commute by bike easier and stress-free.

• Business can measure up against the only international benchmark for workplace cycling and network with the most innovative businesses in your field.

• You’ll get a flexible, comprehensive package of support to help you improve cycling to work for your employees.

• The scheme is based on key measures like communications, organisational coordination, services for employees, facilities and innovation.

To gain accredition with this European standard, your business just needs to follow three simple steps:

• register for the scheme

• self-evaluate using a free online tool to check if your company can already achieve the certification - Cycling UK will check your cycle friendly measures are in place and issue simple advice for employers to improve

• receive your certification by achieving bronze, silver or gold status

Belfast Bike Scheme Wins At Cycle Planning Awards
The Coca-Cola Zero Belfast Bikes scheme has been named 'Best Integrated Community Hub or Cycle Scheme' at the annual Cycle Planning Awards, held in London. The bike hire scheme was launched by Belfast City Council in April 2015 and so far has attracted more than 4,000 annual subscribers.
