Woman Assaulted By Burglar In Co Tyrone

Police have issued an appeal for information after a woman was assaulted at her County Tyrone home by a burglar.

It is understood that at about 4.30am on Sunday, 22 April, the woman was awoken by a noise at her home on Mourne Avenue in Coalisland.

The woman was confronted by an intruder who slapped her and demanded money.

The robber fled the scene with the woman's handbag, which contained cash and personal items, as well as her wedding ring.

The suspect is described as being about 6ft tall and of thin build.

Anyone with information, or who witnessed anything suspicious, is urged to contact police.

Pensioner attacked during burglary of her home
A 90-year-old woman was assaulted during a burglary of her home in Ballygowan, Co Down last night. The woman was confronted by a teenager after hearing noise in her kitchen. The youth then assaulted the elderly woman before escaping into an alley at the back of the house. Police believe an accomplice then joined the assailant.

Man arrested after woman dies in collision
A 61-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in County Down. A woman, believed to be in her 50s, was hit by a vehicle on the Comber Road in Newtownards at about 9.45pm last night. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Woman Arrested Over Peggy O'Hara Funeral
A 51-year-old woman has been arrested in relation to offences at the wake and funeral of Peggy O'Hara in July. The woman was arrested in L'Derry and has been detained at Musgrave Police Station. Peggy O'Hara was the mother of an INLA member who died in a hunger strike in Long Kesh in 1981.

Police investigate ‘suspicious’ death in Strabane
Police in Strabane are investigating the suspicious death of a 43-year-old woman in the town. The body of the woman was discovered in a house in the Churchview area of Strabane, County Tyrone last night. It is understood a man is currently assisting police with their enquiries. Woman dies in County Tyrone collision
Police in County Tyrone have appealed for information following a road traffic collision in which a woman lost her life. Eileen McKenna, 60, from the Cloughter area, died after being struck by a van in the Main Street area of Clougher at around 10.15am yesterday morning. Ms McKenna was taken to hospital, however she later died from her injuries.

Woman Dies In Garage Fire At Portadown Home
A woman has died after a fire in the garage of a house in Portadown, County Armagh. The fire at Oakleigh Park, off the Brownstown Road, was reported to police shortly after 07:20 GMT on Monday. Police and firefighters are still at the scene and are investigating the cause of the fire. The woman's name has not yet been released.

Robbers Assault Tyrone 88-Year-Old
An elderly woman has been brutally assaulted during a robbery at her home yesterday. The 88-year-old woman has suffered a broken rib and head injury when she was tied up in a terrifying robbery. The pensioner was confronted in the hall of her home in Mountfield, Tyrone, at 11pm last night by three masked men who struck her and demanded cash.

Woman sexually assaulted at knifepoint
Police in County Antrim have appealed for information after a woman was sexually assaulted by two men armed with knives. Police have revealed that the attack happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, as the 22-year-old victim was trying to make a telephone call outside a hotel at Donaghy's Lane in Larne.

Woman left in critical condition following stabbing
A woman has been left in a critical condition in hospital after she was stabbed at a house in west Belfast at the weekend. The victim, who is believed to be in her 40s, sustained chest wounds in the stabbing which occurred at a house in Norglen Parade at around 5.30pm on Sunday.
