Polls Open In Ireland's 8th Amendment Referendum

Polls have opened in Ireland for the country's referendum on the 8th Amendment, which aims to reform the state's abortion laws.

The 8th Amendment, introduced in 1983, effectively bans abortion in Ireland – termination is only allowed if the woman's life is at risk.

Polls opened at 7am and will close tonight at 10pm.

More than 100,000 new voters registered ahead of the referendum, with over 3.2 million eligible to participate in today's vote.
