Newtownards man shot in paramilitary-style attack

Police are appealing for information after a man was shot in a paramilitary-style attack in Co Down on Thursday.

The 30-year-old man was walking along the Jubilee Road in Newtownards at around 9pm when he was bundled into a car.

He was taken to an area known as the Flood Gates on the Portaferry Road, where he was shot in the leg.

The man was later treated in hospital for a gunshot wound.

Elsewhere, a controlled explosion has been carried out on a suspect package in Co Londonderry.

A number of families had to leave their Hazeldene Park home's in Magherafelt while Army bomb experts examined a suspicious object found outside a house.

The suspect package was later declared a hoax.

Guests evacuated from hotel in petrol bomb attack
Over 150 guests had to be evacuated from a leading Belfast hotel on Wednesday morning following a petrol bomb attack. Five devices are thought to have been thrown at the Days Hotel in the predominantly loyalist Sandy Row area of the city shortly before 4am. Damage was caused to the front and side of the hotel, but no one was injured in the attack.

Dog Owners Pay Up For Offences
A man has been fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 compensation after his dog attacked and injured a woman. Stephen Thompson, from Dunraven Park in east Belfast, was also ordered to pay costs of £66 in relation to the incident, which happened on the Beersbridge Road on December 25, 2010. Three other dog owners were also fined in court.

Man recovering in hospital following paramilitary-style attack
A 23-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot in the leg in a paramilitary-style attack in Co Down. The incident happened at around 1.30pm on Saturday on the Abbotts Road in Newtownards. Police said the victim had tried to run away when he saw four men pull up alongside him in a red Ford Escort car.

Man Shot In The Leg In Co Tyrone
Police have launched an investigation after a man was shot in the leg in Co Tyrone. The man left his home in the Clonabay area in Coalisland at around 3pm on Tuesday, and returned on Wednesday with a gunshot wound to his leg. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Man and woman shot in Co Down bar
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and woman were shot at a bar in Co Down on Sunday. Both victims were sitting in McSwiggan's bar in Water Street, Newry, at around 7.30pm when a masked man armed with a handgun entered the premises and shot both individuals.

Fresh Arrest Over Massereene Barracks Murders
It has just emerged that a 44-year-old man has been arrested by detectives investigating the murders of two soldiers (pictured) at Massereene Barracks in Antrim. The man was arrested in Magherafelt, Co Londonderry, on Friday morning at the same time as related searches were being carried out in Pomeroy and Dungannon, both in Co Tyrone.

Victim found shot in Co Down graveyard
A man has been found with a gunshot wound to his chest at a graveyard in Holywood, Co Down on Monday. The 26-year-old victim, who is critically ill in hospital, is believed to have been dragged into Redburn Cemetery in Holywood by four men before being shot in the early hours of the morning. A local resident raised the alarm at around 2.

Police are appealing for information after a gun was held to a woman’s head during an incident at a house in Co Londonderry on Monday. Five masked men, claiming to be from the INLA, forced their way into the house in Drumleck Drive, Shantallow.

Teenager shot in both ankles
A teenager is being treated in hospital for gunshot wounds to both ankles in what appears to have been a paramilitary style shooting in West Belfast last night. The 18-year-old man was found in the garden of a house in Norglen Parade in the Ballymurphy area at 11pm.

Two shot in separate paramilitary-style attacks
Two men have been shot in separate paramilitary-style attacks in Co Antrim and Co Down last night. At around 9.40pm, a 19-year-old man was abducted by a gang of four men as he walked along the Glenard Road in Newtownards. He was then taken to an area to the rear of shops in West Winds estate and was shot in the leg.

Man Critical Following Co Antrim Road Crash
A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Co Antrim. The crash occurred in the Burn Road area near Doagh in the early hours of Sunday morning. Meanwhile, a woman was injured in a separate crash in Co Armagh. The one vehicle collision happened in the Cullaville Road area near Crossmaglen.

Man Dies In Co Armagh Road Crash
A man has died following a collision in Co Armagh. The crash happened in Silverbridge on the New Road area in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The man was driving a van and police were alerted to the incident at around 5.40am. The road remains closed and diversions have been put in place.

Man Arrested After Shots Fired At Police Vehicles
A 53-year-old man has been arrested over a gun attack on police on 5 December 2013. The man was arrested on Tuesday morning in north Belfast. Three police vehicles were shot at on the Crumlin Road during the attack. No one was injured. The man is currently being detained for questioning at Antrim police station.

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot in the chest last night in an incident on the outskirts of west Belfast. The shooting happened on the Good Shepherd Road in Poleglass outside Colin Mill Lodge at about midnight on Monday.
