Former City Airport chief joins Harbour Commissioners

The former head of Belfast City Airport has been appointed Chief Executive of Belfast Harbour Commissioners.

John Doran, who oversaw the construction of the new £20 million terminal at Belfast City, replaces Gordon Irwin who retired from Belfast Harbour Commissioners the end of last year.

The appointment is effective from 19 April 2004 and will run until the end of the term of office of the existing Board on 31 December 2004.

Mr Doran is a Chartered Accountant and an Economics and Business graduate of QUB. He was previously Director of the Airport Operators Association (UK).

He is also Chairman of the Governing Body, Upper Bann Institute of Further and Higher Education; a non-executive Director of Craigavon Area Hospital Group Trust; and is an independent member of the Senior Management pay review panel, Staff Commission for Education and Library Boards, NI.

SS Nomadic to return to Belfast in July
The SS Nomadic will return to Belfast in July, the Department of Social Development has today revealed. The SS Nomadic was built at Harland and Wolff in Belfast in 1910 and was originally used to ferry first-class passengers to and from both the Titanic and its sister ship, the Olympic.

Two New Belfast Harbour Commissioners Appointed
Two city councillors have been appointed to the Belfast Harbour Commissioners. Belfast City Council's Patrick Convery and Danny Lavery will replace predecessors incumbent Lord Mayor Tom Hartley and councillor Alban Maginness. Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, has welcomed the appointments.

Aer Lingus To Move To City Airport
Aer Lingus flights are to go from George Best Belfast City Airports as of the autumn. The airline is switching its operations there from its former base at Belfast International Airport. It will fly three flights daily in each direction to both London Heathrow and Gatwick.
