Water Service to invest £47 million in Coleraine area
The Water Service has announced plans to start work on £47 million worth of projects in the Coleraine area over the next three years.
The investment will see work carried out on the £42 million North Coast Wastewater Treatment Works, which will treat wastewater from Castlerock, Coleraine, Portrush and Portstewart.
An extensive programme of improvements to other Wastewater Treatment Works will also include Clarehill, Kilrea and Macosquin, accompanied by sewer extensions and replacements.
Today’s announcement follows NIO Minister John Spellar’s recent proposals for domestic charges for water and sewerage services.
These reforms, including the commencement of phasing in of the new charges, are to be implemented from 2006/7.
An Integrated Impact Assessment of the Water Reform proposals, addressing matters such as equality and regulatory impacts, will be published for consultation in the next few months.
