Police treat shooting as ‘attempted murder’

Police are treating the shooting of a man in west Belfast on Wednesday as attempted murder.

The 25-year-old was walking along St James Avenue at around 8.45pm when he was shot in the shoulder.

Police said they believe up to three men, armed with a shotgun, were involved in the attack before fleeing in a light coloured car in the direction of the Donegall Road.

The victim is currently being treated in hospital however his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Elsewhere in west Belfast, an elderly man's car has been stolen after he was pushed to the ground by a youth in Glen Parade.

The 77-year-old man was getting out of his vehicle at around 10.30pm when he dropped his keys.

As he bent to pick them up, a youth pushed him down, grabbed the keys and stole the car before picking up two other people at the end of the street and driving away.

Man Arrested Over Paramilitary-Style Shooting In L'Derry
A man has been arrested in connection with a paramilitary-style shooting in Co L'Derry. A 33-year-old man was shot in the legs and abdomen in the Lisfannon Park area on Tuesday, 08 August. Police described the assault as "brutal and horrific". The 43-year-old suspect was detained in L'Derry on Tuesday, 15 August.

Man Seriously Injured In Collision With Police Car
A man, aged in his 50s, has suffered serious leg injuries following a collision with a police car in east Belfast in the early hours of this morning, Friday 26 January. Shortly after 5.
