Teenage boy treated in hospital following fire

A teenage boy is being treated in hospital after being injured during a fire at a house in west Belfast.

The boy's clothes caught fire after the blaze started in a garden shed at the house in Lagmore Meadows off the Stewartstown Road late on Monday.

The victim is said to be in a stable condition in hospital after being rescued by his father and a neighbour.

The fire which spread to an oil tank led to burning fuel engulfing an electricity sub-station. This resulted in 1,000 homes being left without power in the area.

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) said work had begun to repair the extensive damage to the local sub-station. Work was ongoing today in an attempt to restore power to the affected homes.

It has not yet been established how the blaze started.
