Victim found shot in Co Down graveyard

A man has been found with a gunshot wound to his chest at a graveyard in Holywood, Co Down on Monday.

The 26-year-old victim, who is critically ill in hospital, is believed to have been dragged into Redburn Cemetery in Holywood by four men before being shot in the early hours of the morning.

A local resident raised the alarm at around 2.30am after hearing a gunshot followed by cries for help.

Police said they were treating the incident as attempted murder after the victim was able to tell officers he had been abducted from a nearby petrol station.

Paramilitary involvement is one line of inquiry being investigated by police who have cordoned off the area as crime scene officers search the surrounding vicinity.

Detectives have also been carrying out door-to-door enquiries on Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
