Northern Ireland showcased to world business leaders

Prominent business leaders from around the world have gathered in Northern Ireland today to find out why the region is a good place to do business.

A prestigious group of business leaders visited Belfast before going on to London to take part in the 2005 Annual Leadership Forum Conference, organised by the Harvard Business School.

The 69 visitors, part of a 1,000-strong delegation attending the conference, were welcomed to Northern Ireland by Enterprise Minister, Angela Smith, at Hillsborough Castle.

Speaking at Hillsborough, Ms Smith, said: “This is an important opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland’s economic strengths. We have already created important industrial legacies and are determined to continue to innovate.

“Northern Ireland is looking to the future. The expansion of trade links through the increase of direct air services from Northern Ireland to Europe and America and with 98% broadband availability, Northern Ireland is capable of competing in the global market place.”

During their one-day visit, the delegates visited Belfast City Hall, the Northern Ireland Science Park and Stormont, to hear from leading academics and business people.
