Man treated in hospital following burglary

A man is being treated in hospital after an armed gang broke into his north Belfast home on Wednesday.

A number of masked men armed with a gun, a knife and a baton broke into the house at Greymount Parade shortly before midnight.

They struck the 50-year-old occupant on the head and repeatedly assaulted both the man and his sons before demanding money.

They also ransacked the house before making off with jewellery and cash.

The assailants also tried to steal the man’s car but made off on foot after spotting a police patrol.

None of the victims' injuries is believed to be life-threatening.

Police have appealed for anyone with any information about the incident to contact them on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
