Two men appear in court charged with attempted murder

Two men have appeared in court today charged with the attempted murder after a taxi driver in Co Down last weekend.

The driver was shot in his vehicle after dropping off a fare in the Westwinds estate of Newtownards at around 12 midnight on Saturday. He sustained a number of gunshot wounds to his chest.

Luke Hawkins, 19, of Balfour Street and Michael James Massey, 19, of Abbot Gardens, both of Newtownards, were remanded in custody at Netwonards Magistrates Court on Friday.

Mr Hawkins replied not guilty when charged while Mr Massey made no reply.

The men were remanded in custody to appear before the same court by video link on September 23.

Two Men Arrested In £500,000 Drug Seiure In South Belfast
Two men have been arrested in connection with a £500,000 drug seizure following searches in South Belfast. On Friday, 01 March, detectives from the PSNI's Organised Crime Branch stopped and searched two vehicles in the Lisburn Road area. Class B controlled drugs were recovered from both vehicles which were also subsequently seized.

Two men have been jailed at Belfast Crown Court in connection with the "horrific and callous" murder of Roy Reynolds in County Antrim in 2022. Michael Campbell, 34, was handed a life sentence last December after pleading guilty to Mr Reynold's murder.
