Shop employee 'badly shaken' following armed robbery

A shop employee has been left badly shaken following a robbery in Belfast city centre on Saturday.

The female member of staff had been in a rear storage area of the Iceland store in Castle Street when an armed man approached her via a rear door, and ordered her to take him to a cash room where she was forced to open a safe.

The robber who is described as about 5ft 8in tall and of stocky build stole an undisclosed sum of cash and bound the staff member’s hands and feet before leaving the shop via the rear entrance.

At the time of the theft, he was wearing a dark beanie style hat, dark jacket with a distinctive red hoop around the body and arms, dark tracksuit bottoms with white trainers. He also used a light coloured scarf to hide his face.

Detectives at Musgrave Street are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the Castle Street/ Millfield area before 7.20am on Saturday to contact them on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
