Woman treated in hospital after attempted car jacking

A 43-year-old woman has been treated in hospital after suffering injuries to her face and head, during an attempted car jacking in east Belfast, at around 1.30pm yesterday.

It is understood that the attacker, who posed as a security guard near a car park close to central station, asked the woman to move her car, and as she went to do this, he attacked her and tried to steal her vehicle.

Two men, who were in the East Bridge Street area and witnessed the assault, came to her assistance and managed to restrain the man until police arrived.

The assailant was detained by police, and is currently helping them with their inquiries.

Detectives investigating the incident have appealed for witnesses to the incident and are especially keen to trace one of the men who helped the woman, but left the scene before police arrived.

Anyone who may have any information on the attack should contact police on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
