Man held at knifepoint during west Belfast hijacking

Police in west Belfast have appealed for information following a hijacking incident last night.

The victim was standing beside his car in the Falls Road area of the city shortly after 2am, when he was approached by three men.

The thieves held a knife to the victim's throat and eye and demanded the keys to his car, before making off in his blue Volkswagen Golf.

The man was not injured during the incident, however police have said that he was left extremely shaken by his ordeal.

Anyone with any information on the attack should contact police at the Grosvenor Road station on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man is expected to appear in court charged in connection with attempted hijacking, assault causing actual bodily harm and threats to kill.

It is understood that the charges relate to an incident in which a woman was attacked by a man posing as a security guard in east Belfast, close to Central Station on Sunday afternoon.

Two men, who witnessed the incident came to her rescue and managed to detain the man until police arrived.

The woman was taken to hospital, where she was treated for head and facial injuries.

The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Appeal Issued Following Car Hijacking
Police have issued an appeal for information following the hijacking of car in Belfast. At around 8.45pm on Thursday (6 February), approximately 15 hooded youths pulled a man from his car – a white Ford Focus – and stole it. The incident happened in the Ross Street area of the city.
