Security guard stabbed in hospital attack

A security guard has been stabbed during an attack at a County Down Hospital in the early hours of this morning.

The guard was on his rounds in the Radiology Department in the Dundonald Hospital at around 3am when he was attacked by a man wielding a knife.

The guard suffered a puncture wound to his stomach and was treated at the scene for his injury, which was described as serious, but not life threatening,

He was later discharged from hospital.

Police have said that the attacker is not believed to be a patient, but may have been a prowler.

He has been described as being in his 20s, around 5' 10" in height and of medium build.

He is thought to be wearing blue jeans, a black jacket with a grey hood over his head and a red and white scarf.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the attack or have any information, which may be relevant to their investigation, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

The PSNI has condemned an incident in which a man used a van to repeatedly ram a police patrol car and attempted to run over an officer in Newry on Saturday, 03 February. Shortly after 11:20pm, officers on patrol approached a man standing beside a white Peugeot van in the Castlekeele Estate area.

Appeal Following Petrol Bomb Attack In Banbridge
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a petrol bomb attack in Banbridge, in the early hours of Tuesday 19th March. It was reported that at around 2.10am on Tuesday morning, two petrol bombs were thrown at the back wall of a house in the Castlewellan Road area, causing scorch damage to the wall and a window frame.
