Sword attack in west Belfast

Police in west Belfast have appealed for witnesses following a serious assault yesterday afternoon.

At around 2pm, a member of the public contacted police after he located his stolen car in the Dungloe Crescent area of the town. As the owner and his friend approached the car, they were attacked by a man armed with a sword, who attempted to get into the stolen vehicle.

The attacker then smashed a window on the car. The two men ran towards their car which was parked nearby and got inside. The assailant followed them and proceeded to smash a window in an attempt to stab the men, one of whom sustained a facial injury.

The assailant then made his escape up an alleyway in Dungloe Crescent.

He is described as being aged in his early twenties, around 6ft tall, of thin build and with short black hair. He was wearing a white top with vertical stripes.

Police have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the attack or who may have seen this man run away from the area, to contact them at Grosvenor Road on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
