Man dies in paragliding incident

The man who died during a paragliding incident in County Antrim yesterday evening has been named.

He was Kelvin Adams, 53, from Ballytober Road in Bushmills.

An air and sea rescue operation was launched by emergency services shortly before 8pm, after Mr Adams' paraglider crashed into rocks at the White Rocks area of Portrush.

He was taken to hospital, but later died from his injuries.

It is understood that there were a number of other paragliders in the area at the time, who all managed to land safely.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard today said that the man was aiming to land on the beach, however due to weather conditions, he landed in the water and became entangled in the harness.

Mr Adams is believed to have been an experienced paraglider.
