Baby dies in County Down collision

A one-year-old child has died following a road traffic collision in County Tyrone early this morning.

The incident happened on the Deerpark Road near Newtownstewart at around 8am this morning, when the car in which a woman and her baby daughter were travelling, was in collision with a van.

The driver of the car and her child were taken to Altnagelvin hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead.

The woman is described as having serious, but not life threatening injuries.

Renewed Appeal For Help Tracing Paula Elliott
The PSNI have issued a fresh appeal for help in tracing the whereabouts of Paula Elliott, who was last seen on Tuesday, 05 March. The 52-year-old was last seen on CCTV cameras leaving the Sprucefield Court area of Lisburn at 5.30pm, before making her way to Warren Gardens at around 5.36pm.

New figures from the PSNI show the number of drivers caught speeding in one day in Northern Ireland as part of a major operation. Police carried out vehicle check points, speed checks and proactively patrolling as part of a Service Wide proactive Roads Policing Operation focusing on speeding (OP Lifesaver) and pedestrian safety (Op Safer steps).
