Ladies Day 'On The Buses'

Northern Ireland's bus company, Translink is on the look-out for women - by hosting an 'informative day' to encourage more ladies to join the ranks of the Province's city-based bus and rural coach drivers.

Women taking part will have the opportunity to drive a bus, see ticketing demonstrations, talk to some of the company's current female drivers about their experiences and hopefully - allay any misconceptions or fears about bus driving - and maybe end up with a rewarding and fulfilling career.

Paula Ludlow, Personnel Services and Systems Manager Translink explained more: "We are delighted to offer this great opportunity for women to discover that bus driving is as accessible to them as any other job they would choose.

"Whether they want to return to work, take a career change or have been considering a role as a bus driver, they can take one of our buses for a test drive under expert instruction and sample what it would be like to work behind the wheel of a bus," she said.

Translink's "Have a Go" day is aimed at encouraging more females to become a bus driver in what is generally deemed to be a male dominated industry.

It takes place from 8-10th April and begins at 8.45am and runs until 4pm each day at Nutts Corner, Co. Antrim.

Those interested are asked to be flexible with regard to their day of attendance. Participants can apply for a bus driving job on the day and all those who attend must have held a current full clean driving licence for at least two years which must be brought to the event.

As it is on a 'first come, first served' basis, ladies should reserve a place by calling the Human Resource Dept or to access further information visit: www.translink.co.uk/recruitment.
