Teenage boy beaten by gang in his own bedroom

A 15-year-old boy has been treated for a broken leg and suspected broken arm after he was beaten in an attack at his County Down home.

The teenager was in the bedroom of his house in the Johnston Park area of Carrowdore when three men forced their way in shortly before midnight last night and beat him with baseball bats.

The PSNI District Commander for Newtownards Judith Gillespie said the attack amounted to child abuse.

Speaking on local radio she said: “In any sort of civilised society this type of attack would be called child abuse.”

Police in Newtownards have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man has been shot in the ankles in a paramilitary style shooting. The incident happened in the Glenalina Crescent area of Ballymurphy in west Belfast shortly after midnight.
