Republic's Minister Welcomes Subway Jobs Boost

Irish Enterprise Minister Mary Coughlan has welcomed Subway's decision to significantly increase its operations across Ireland

The development will be over the next two years - a move that is expected to create 1,300 new jobs.

Ms Coughlan said: "I welcome the announcement by the sandwich chain Subway that it is to open another 119 new stores throughout Ireland leading to the creation of 1,300 new jobs.

"Indeed this expansion has already started with the opening today of two new stores in Dublin and Armagh.

"The further expansion of their operations is a strong vote of confidence in the continued growth of the food retail business in Ireland.

"I am particularly pleased that nearly all the food produce used by Subway is sourced in Ireland, which should ultimately lead to further job creation in the food supply and distribution sectors."

She added: "Delivery of choice and quality is essential in the food services sector and clearly Subway have proved a huge success with Irish consumers."
