Olympic Race Underway For Builders
A special guide to help Irish construction and building supply companies win business from the development of the 2012 Games has been launched by Invest Northern Ireland.
The 'BUILD to Win Guide to Winning Tenders' was launched at a workshop attended by around 50 companies in construction services and supplies.
Launching the 24-page guide, Kevin McCann, Invest NI's Director of Construction, said: "Upwards of £6 billion worth of contracts are available for companies at the site of the Games at Stratford and a number of local companies have already secured contracts.
"Over 700 have also registered for information about business opportunities on the official CompeteFor website which publishes 2012 Games-related contract opportunities.
"We decided to commission this guide to help smaller companies in particular to get to grips with the tendering procedure for contracts under the main building programme and also to understand the requirements of major contractors from their supply chain partners," he said, noting that the BUILD to Win Guide spells out clearly and concisely the steps they need to take to compete for tenders for 2012 work as well as other public sector tenders.
"By following the five stages outlined in the guide, companies should be in a much stronger position to assess a tender opportunity, and to bid for those opportunities that they believe they have the necessary track record and skills to win," he continued.
"The guide is a further initiative in the measures being taken by Invest NI's Trade team to help local companies to identify potential new business contracts, develop partnerships and bid effectively and professionally for very worthwhile tenders. These initiatives have already included a series of workshops and a visit to the London site," he added.
