Baby girl born in Crossmaglen police station

During the Bank Holiday weekend Police in Crossmaglen had an emergency of a slightly different type to deal with - the birth of a baby girl born in the Police Station in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police said that just before midnight on Friday, May 3, a man arrived at the gates of the Police station asking for assistance for his wife who was in labour. The woman was immediately brought into the station and made her as comfortable as possible whilst an ambulance was called.

Officers prepared a makeshift delivery suite and attempts were made to contact a local Doctor. A helicopter was put on standby, while along with Police, Army medics in the station assisted the woman.

Within minutes of an ambulance arriving at the station the baby, a girl weighing over 8lbs was born just after 1.15am on Saturday morning.

Mother and baby were taken by ambulance to Daisy Hill hospital where both were said to be doing well.
