Employment And Youth Activation Charter Launches
Tánaiste Joan Burton, TD, today launched the Employment and Youth Activation Charter at the Back to Work Masterclass and Jobs Expo, a free event for jobseekers, organised by the Department of Social Protection and major employers as part of Jobs Week. She was joined by Minister of State for Employment, Community and Social Support, Kevin Humphreys, in launching the Charter.
Employers which sign this Charter commit that at least 50% of candidates considered for interview will be taken from the Live Register. They will also implement a selection of measures which seek to prime those who are out of work to take up jobs.
The Charter was proposed by the Labour Market Council, the body of industry and policy experts which was established by the Tánaiste in 2013 to help drive implementation of the Government’s Pathways to Work strategy to tackle unemployment.
The Tánaiste launched the Charter with Minister Kevin Humphreys; Mr Martin Murphy, Managing Director of Hewlett Packard Ireland and Chair of the Labour Market Council, and Mr Tony Keohane, Chairman of Tesco Ireland and Chair of the Employment Engagement Committee of the Labour Market Council which oversaw the development of the Charter.
The Tánaiste said: "The Employment and Youth Activation Charter is a vital initiative that will help speed up the progress we are making on the employment front through the Government’s Pathways to Work and Action Plan for Jobs strategies.
"Overall, employment has increased by over 75,000 since the beginning of 2012, but there remain too many people out of work, and the Charter shows how the Government is working with both employers and jobseekers to help grow business and reduce the Live Register so that everyone benefits."

Consultation On New Employment Programme Launched
Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry today launched a public consultation on a proposed new employment programme for Northern Ireland. The new programme, which has been called provisionally Steps 2 Success (NI), will replace the Department’s main adult return to work provision, Steps to Work, which was introduced in September 2008.

JobBridge Is A Pathway To Full-Time Employment – Coffey
Fine Gael Waterford Deputy, Paudie Coffey, has said that the JobBridge internship scheme is a clear and dependable pathway to full-time employment, which has seen 36 per cent of intern graduates in Waterford moving directly into employment, while 61 per cent of interns nationally have secured employment five months after graduating from the scheme.

The programme will allow schools to apply to take on one or more people for a work experience placement for 25-40 hours a week. The placement period is for a minimum of two months and a maximum of nine months.
