Police Forces Face Strike Action

Members of Unite the union working for police forces in England and Wales have become the latest group of workers to vote for industrial action over a below inflation pay rise.

The members, who include 999 call handlers, scene of crime officers, police community support officers and custody officers, voted by 58 per cent for strike action with over three quarters supporting action short of strike.

The workers who have borne the brunt of the coalition's police cuts have been offered a one per cent rise this year after seeing their pay plummet by 13 per cent in real terms since 2010.

Unite's members join GMB and Unison members in backing industrial action as they seek a 3 per cent pay rise.
