Crimestoppers helps 'clean up' crime in Carrickfergus

Crimestoppers and Carrickfergus Borough Council have teamed up in an effort to 'clean up crime' in the Co Antrim town and its surrounding area.

Carrickfergus Council vehicles have become the first local authority vehicles in Northern Ireland to display the Crimestoppers logo and the campaign strap line, 'Cleaning up Crime in Carrickfergus' on bin lorries, street sweepers and environmental services vehicles.

The initiative was launched by Carrickfergus Mayor, Alderman May Beattie and PSNI District Commander Bill Robinson.

Acting Superintendent Robinson said: "This is an excellent way to raise public awareness of Crimestoppers. By using Crimestoppers, the public can make a valuable contribution to community safety by helping to reduce crime and the fear of crime. Carrickfergus Borough Council and Crimestoppers should be congratulated on this initiative."

Carrickfergus is the first district council in Northern Ireland to be involved in the scheme.
