Arrest Over SAS Captain's Murder |
|
It has been reported that the Police Service of Northern Ireland have arrested a man in connection with the killing of an undercover British army officer over 30 years ago.
According to Sky News, the suspect, aged 57, was detained by officers from the Serious Crime Branch in south Armagh and taken for questioning over the abduction and murder of Robert Nairac.
He was an SAS captain abducted by the IRA in 1977 and taken across the border into the Irish Republic and shot.
The victim's body has never been recovered and the IRA has never confirmed that it killed Nairac.
Captain Nairac was working undercover at the time he was abducted, and was last seen in a republican pub singing songs.
Previously, five people in Northern Ireland and another in the Republic of Ireland have been convicted of involvement in Nairac's killing.
