Portadown SDLP Councillor Dies |
|
Tributes have been paid to long-serving Portadown councillor Ignatius Fox, who died at the weekend.
SDLP leader Mark Durkan said Mr Fox, who sat at Craigavon Borough Council, "held the line for power-sharing".
Mr Durkan said his party colleague had "represented his community with determination and distinction".
"He stood on the democratic frontline in the worst of troubled times," Mr Durkan said.
"He held the line for non-violence, justice, power-sharing and constitutional nationalism."
The Social Democratic and Labour Party leader offered his condolences to the Fox family.
"Ignatius gave himself to public life when there was little or no personal reward and the worst possible pressures, discouragements and frustrations as violence and intransigence locked us in conflict," Mr Durkan said.
"Through all those bad times he stood up for a better way in an area that suffered some of the worst examples of violence and sectarianism from various quarters."
