Empey Announces CITB Reappointments

NI Employment and Learning Minister, Sir Reg Empey, has announced four reappointments to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) ConstructionSkills NI.

CITB ConstructionSkills NI is the only remaining statutory training board in Northern Ireland. Its purpose is to encourage adequate training of the people employed or intending to be employed in the construction industry.

The reappointed members are:

Neil Patton – employer representative – Managing Director of the Patton Group and James F. McCue Ltd.

Christopher Carvill – employer representative - Managing Director of the Vico/Carvill group of companies, which are responsible for residential and commercial development. He finished serving a term as President of the Construction Employers Federation in April 2010 and is currently a Board Member of the Confederation of British Industry.

Michelle Doran – employee representative – works for Tullyherron Developments and lectures in health and safety.

Thompson Keating – educational representative - Director of Corporate and Economic Development at the South Eastern Regional College. He takes a keen interest in tourism and economic development. Current appointments include Chair of the North Down Business Village and Board Member of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

'Deeply Concerning' DoH Has Ended Nexus NI Contract – SF
Sinn Féin has said that it is "deeply concerning" that the Department of Health has ended the contract of Nexus NI for specialist counselling services. Linda Dillon MLA said: "I am deeply concerned that the Department of Health has ended the contract of Nexus NI for specialist counselling services for victims of sexual abuse and violence.

Power NI Announces New 6.3% Price Decrease
Power NI has announced a new 6.3% decrease in its residential unit price, following a fall in wholesale market costs. This is the fourth consecutive decrease for the supplier and will take effect from 1 April 2024, meaning that customers on average will make further savings of £64 per year.

Economy Minister Welcomes Increase In Southern Visitors To NI
Economy Minister, Conor Murphy, has welcomed a recorded increase in the number of visitors to NI from the Republic of Ireland. The latest visitor statistics from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), show a very strong performance on trips, nights and spend by Republic of Ireland residents in Northern Ireland in the first nine months of 2023.
