Three Arrested Over Baby Death

Two women and a man have been arrested in Devon, following the death of a baby. The body of the eight-month-old boy was found at a house in Kingsteignton on July 20. The cause of his death has not been confirmed. A 25-year-old man and two women, aged 20 and 54, were arrested on suspicion of child neglect and have been released until September 2. An inquest has been opened and adjourned and post mortem examination has been carried out at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Appeal Over Manchester Rape

Police have released an image of a man they wish to question in connection with the rape of a teenager in south Manchester. The incident happened at a house in Royal Oak Road, between 4am and 5am, on June 22. The woman had been at a gathering of family and friends earlier in the evening and it is understood that the attacker, who she had not met before, but was at the house drinking, made sexual advances towards her, but she refused him and went to bed. However, a few hours later, she was awakened by the offender who raped her. She managed to kick him off and he fled. Police have now released an image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident. The attacker is described as being around 25 and 26-years-old, 5ft 7ins tall and of skinny build. He was wearing a black T-shirt and a rusty silver chain. The image can be viewed at: www.gmp.police.uk

Belfast Families Flee Alert

The latest in a long-running series of security alerts blamed on republican dissidents has led to about 100 families being forced to leave their homes last night. It happened after a suspicious car was left outside New Barnsley PSNI station. Army technical officers were called to the scene and carried out several controlled explosions, however, nothing was found and a police spokeswoman confirmed that residents were allowed to return to their homes on Thursday morning. On Tuesday, a 200lb car bomb exploded outside Strand Road police station in Londonderry. In Bangor, Co Down, an Army major had a lucky escape when a booby-trap bomb fell from his car on Wednesday.
