Lenihan Laid To Rest |
|
The funeral of Brian Lenihan, the former Irish Minister for Finance, (pictured) is taking place in Dublin today.
Mr Lenihan, 52, (pictured here) passed away on Friday after his health deteriorated due to pancreatic cancer.
He was diagnosed in 2009, and left hospital to be cared for by his family.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny and President Mary McAleese are attending the funeral mass, taking place at St Mochta's Church in Porterstown, County Dublin.
Leaders and representatives from north and south are also in attendence including; Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, businessman Denis O'Brien, former Tánaiste Mary Harney and former Green Party leader and Cabinet colleague John Gormley.
Hundreds of mourners turned out for the funeral in Porterstown, located in the heart of the Dublin West constituency where Mr Lenihan first won a seat in 1996.
Mr Lenihan will be laid to rest at a private burial at St David's Church Graveyard in Kilsallaghan.
The Dáil has been adjourned until tomorrow as a mark of respect.
