350 TV Licensing Jobs At Risk
Over 350 TV licensing jobs are under risk of redundancy following plans to relocate work.
Capita said that hundreds of jobs are at risk because of a decision to move work from a Bristol office to other sites in the UK.
The feared redundancies have been described as “devastating” and “callous” by the Communication Workers Union.
The union believes that the job losses will hit the Bristol area hard. This news also follows a series of strikes staged at Capita over pay last year.
Meanwhile the move comes after a review of Capita’s business and they claim that a revised delivery model is necessary to meet the demands of the contract in the future.
It is understood that an office will be retained in Bristol but regardless the re-structuring will mean that 350 roles are at risk.
A formal consultation period will now commence with employees.

Plans Announced To Make Young People Work For Benefits
The Prime Minister has announced a proposal for 18 to 21-year-olds claiming benefits to do daily work experience. The proposed reform, known as Community Work Programme, would see young people not in work, education or training, required to complete daily work experience, alongside continuing to look for work in order to qualify for benefits.

Fatal Roof Fall Leads To Prosecution
Satellite TV installation firm Foxtel Ltd, has been prosecuted following the death of a worker who fell while carrying out work on a roof. Engineer Noel Corbin, 29, from New Addington, Croydon, suffered fatal head injuries after falling 13.5 metres from a four-storey house onto a side patio in Belsize Park, London on 3 February 2008.
