Muamba Tweeter Loses Appeal |
|
The student jailed for racially offensive tweets about Fabrice Muamba has lost an appeal over his sentence.
21-year-old Liam Stacey was jailed for 56 days last Tuesday and today a High Court Judge in Swansea has dismissed an appeal against the sentence.
Mr Justice Wyn Williams said he rejected the argument that Stacey had been punished enough.
"He was intending to say what he said and was intending to produce the effect that he did," said the judge.
Stacey had tried to "distance himself" from the tweets by claiming his account had been hacked and later tried to delete his page.
When interviewed by police, Stacey said he had been drinking since lunchtime on Saturday and was drunk when he made the comments.
Swansea University has suspended Stacey pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings.
