1,800 Work Drivers Caught Smoking |

Five years since the smoking ban was introduced in Northern Ireland it has been revealed that work-vehicle drivers are the people who most frequently break the law.
More than 1,800 smokers have been caught lighting up behind the wheel of 57,000 work vehicles in the past two years, according to Health Department surveys.
Legislation banning smoking in the workplace, and in closed public spaces, as well as in vehicles such as taxis, buses, vans and lorries, first came into effect in 2006.
The group carried out two surveys in 2010 and 2011 to find out the extent of the problem.
According to the surveys last year there were 533 fines and 16 prosecutions for smoking in vehicles.
