Suicide Pact 'May Have Been Avoided' |
|
An inquiry into the suicides of two teenage girls may have been avoided.
Niamh Lafferty, 15, and Georgia Rowe, 14, died after jumping over 100ft from the Erskine Bridge into the River Clyde on 4 October 2009.
Both girls were residents of the Good Shepherd Centre in Bishopton, Renfrewshire, at the time.
A fatal accident inquiry, at Paisley Sherriff Court, said the deaths may have been avoided "had reasonable precautions been taken".
Sheriff Ruth Anderson said it could have been avoided if the girls were housed at the centre's open unit rather than a self contained flat.
She said the deaths were not accidental, and both were suicides.
