Former NHS Staff Arrested In Connection To Operation Elveden

Police investigating inappropriate payments from journalists have arrested two former NHS workers.

A 46-year-old man, and 42-year-old woman were arrested at an address in Bridgwater, Somerset, this morning (Thursday) on suspicion of corruption and of conspiracy to cause misconduct in public office.

The pair are being questioned, by detectives of Scotland Yard's Operation Elveden investigation, at a police station in Somerset.

They are the 38th and 39th arrests in the Metropolitan police probe into inappropriate payments from journalists. The pair were held following information provided to police from News Corporation's management and standards committee.

A statement released by the Metropolitan police read: "Officers investigating allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials have arrested two people in Somerset this morning.

"The arrests were made by officers from Operation Elveden which is being supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and is being run in conjunction with Operation Weeting, the MPS inquiry into the phone hacking of voicemail boxes."
