College Wins 'Fantastic Recognition' Of Tech-Based Learning

College Wins Fantastic Recognition Of Tech-Based LearningA Northern Irish regional college has won official recognition for its pioneering work in e-learning.

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) came first in the further education category of the e-Learning Innovation Awards.

The awards recognise excellence in the innovative use of technology to enhance teaching and learning.

The annual conference and awards ceremony, organised by the Regional Support Centre Northern Ireland (RSCni), was held at The Riddel Hall Stranmillis and presented by former headmistress Lady Rosemary Salisbury.

The aim of the awards are to promote e-learning by identifying, recognising and rewarding individuals and teams throughout Northern Ireland who are spearheading the development and effective use of technology to enhance teaching and learning.

But it doesn’t stop there – organisers see the awards as a way to showcase the contribution and impact of technology in further education, highlight best practice and raise awareness of the extensive benefits of technology to the learners, employers and communities as a whole.

Robert McLaughlin of SERC said the award was "fantastic recognition of the innovative work in e-learning undertaken by the learners and staff in the College."

Employment and learning minister Stephen Farry said: "The Innovation Awards scheme is the perfect vehicle to showcase examples of effective technology-based teaching and learning. Congratulations to all the winners."
