Blaze Under Investigation At Fire Station

A part-time blaze at a County Londonderry part-time fire station is under investigation.

A smoke alarm went off at Limavady fire station on Catherine Street in the town at 8:50am today.

It took about an hour to bring the fire, in the station’s store room, under control.

Firefighters from Dungiven and Londonderry were called to the scene.

A spokesman said: "There has been some damage to the lecture room in the fire station.

However, the two Limavady fire appliances have not been damaged and the station remains operationally live. We want to use this incident to emphasise that fire can happen to anyone, at anytime, in any building. Fire doesn't discriminate and it shows the importance of thinking fire safety first, working smoke alarms and the swift actions of our local fire crews in protecting our whole community from the dangers of fire."

Emergency cover in the area was not affected by the incident.
