Thales win multi-million pound missile deal

Thales has won a multi-million contract to supply missiles to South Africa.

The contract put at around £12.5 million is understood to involve the supply of the high-tech Starstreak air defence missiles for use South African defence forces.

Developed in Belfast by the former Short Missile Systems division the short-range missile system provides close in air defence capabilities.

Thales Chief Executive Miller Crawford said the company was delighted to have secured its first overseas export order for Starstreak in a very competitive market sector.

The Starstreak missile system comprises a lightweight multiple launcher assembly and a self-contained radar unit which is also supplied by Thales.

Two men have been arrested in connection with a £500,000 drug seizure following searches in South Belfast. On Friday, 01 March, detectives from the PSNI's Organised Crime Branch stopped and searched two vehicles in the Lisburn Road area. Man Wanted In Ireland On Drug Offences Arrested In South Belfast
