83rd Arrest Made In Operation Elveden

A 49-year-old man has been arrested in north London on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.

The former prison officer is the 83rd person to be detained by the Met's Operation Elveden, set up to investigate illegal payments made to public officials.

Officers arrested the man at his home in north London.

Three Metropolitan police officers have been arrested over allegations they made inflated expenses claims while investigating the July 7 bombings, Scotland Yard has said. Football Fans Arrested Over Pub Attack In North London
Six Everton football fans have been arrested in connection with an attack outside a pub in North London. Scotland Yard carried out the early morning raids today 2 July. Six males, aged between 15 and 54-years-old, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder in the Crawley area of Sussex.

Government launches consultation on smoking proposals
The government is to begin consultation on proposals to ban smoking in most public places in England. The government hopes that the consultation will lead to a Bill being introduced in the autumn. The ‘Choosing Health’ Public Health White Paper published last November, unveiled proposals to ban smoking in all enclosed public spaces and workplaces.
