Complaints Raised Over 12th July Bonfire Collections

Residents in Newtownabbey have complained about hundreds of tyres and wooden pallets collected and left at a field in Rathcoole.

Speaking on BBC Radio Ulster's Stephen Nolan show, one resident, who did not wish to be named, said that the piles of wood and tyres were "out of order", adding that it is "not even Easter".

"It's not right for people who pay their rates to have that outside their front doors," that caller said.

TUV Leader Calls For Ban Of GAA Tops In Ulsters University

TUV leader Jim Allister has called for students to be banned from wearing GAA tops on University of Ulster campuses.

Some 3,000 people have signed an online petition supporting, and a related Facebook page have over 7,000 "likes".

Mr Allister made the call after he claimed that the sports tops were causing a "substantial chill factor for students" and "an intimidating atmosphere".

Assembly Member Questions Head Of Prison Service Over Beauty Treatments

A DUP assembly member has claimed that female prisoners are receiving "makeovers at the taxpayer's expense".

The comments came after Prison Service head Sue McAllister told the assembly justicw committee that the training provided the prisoners with "marketable skills", as well as "building confidence and wellbeing".

However, DUP assembly member Jim Wells questioned if it was right to allow the prisoners to receive beauty treatments.
