Starbucks To Move Head Office To UK

The coffee giant Starbucks is to move its European head office from Amsterdam to London by the end of the year, due to a row with the Dutch authorities over corporate tax avoidance.

The relocation will concentrate a "modest number of senior executives" in London and supposed that the company will "pay more tax in UK", according to the company.

However, the company paid £5m in corporation tax last year, its first such tax payment since 2009 following the pressure of campaigners and politicians.

M26 Closed After Multiple Crash

The M26 has been closes in both directions after a multiple crash involving five vehicles, just before 09.40am, between junction three and five, on the westbound carriageway in Kent.

The crash involved two cars, two lorries and a van, according to the Highways Agency.

Seven people have been taken to hospital, a London Air Ambulance was sent to help in the incident and the Kent Fire and Rescue Service said its crews had freed a man, a woman and two children from one car and another couple from a second car.

The motorway remains closed with traffic being turned around and directed back to join the M20 at Wrotham Heath and via the M25.

Balls Faces Police Investigation Over Car Prang

The shadow chancellor Ed Balls is facing a police inquiry after hitting a car and driving off without reporting it.

The incident is alleged to have happened as he was leaving the Labour rooms in Morley during a constituency visit.

He faces an inquiries into a "fail to stop collision", according the West Yorkshire Police.

Mr Balls is understood to have admitted he caused the damage and has apologised to the owner of the other car.

Mr Balls said he has written to the owner of the car offering to reimburse them for the damage and has also contacted his insurance company.

It is not the first time his driving come to the attention of the police after a fine in 2010 for driving while he was using a mobile phone and another one last year later was caught overcoming the 50mpg speed limit at 56mph speeding on the M62.

Digger driver charged over house 'demolition'
A 52-year-old man has been charged with criminal damage offences after a house and cars were destroyed by a mechanical digger. Robert Taylor, of no fixed address, is due to appear before magistrates in Chelmsford charged with criminal damage with intent to endanger life.

Almost 140,000 Nissan Micra’s are to be recalled in the UK over a faulty steering wheel. The car manufacturer is recalling some 841,000 cars worldwide. The model being recalled was built between 2002-2006.

Environment Agency publishes Boscastle report
An Environment Agency report has given the go-ahead to replace flood-damaged buildings in the Cornish village of Boscastle, which was devastated by a massive flood in August last year. The report described the chances of a flood of such magnitude ever happening in that area again as "low", with the risk estimated at 400 to one in any given year.

Sheffield to test run new anti-yob measures
Sheffield has been chosen as a 'trailblazer' area to show how new anti-social behaviour powers can be used, the government has announced today. The Yorkshire city will be an area of "sustained action" in dealing with nuisance neighbours, abandoned cars, graffiti and litter. The campaign is backed by £500,000 of government funding.
