Four NI Buildings Win Architectural Awards

Four buildings in Northern Ireland have won architectural awards for excellence.

The Guildhall in Londonderry, a PSNI memorial garden within the grounds of the PSNI headquarters on Knock Road, Loughloughan Barn in Broughshane and two west Belfast terrace houses, renovated by cancer charity CLIC Sargent, all took home awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Of the Guildhall, the judges said: "Restored and rejuvenated, it has been reclaimed for generations to come and can be fully appreciated from the Peace Bridge, which sets it dramatically in scene."

Of the PSNI memorial garden it was said: "The new memorial garden overall is an exceptional commemorative space, which radiates a great sense of peace, dignity and stillness."

Awarding the converted barn, the judges said: "The living spaces flow effortlessly and provide a calm retreat from which to enjoy the real drama of this house – the ever-changing colours of the landscape below and skies above."
